Wilderness First Aid [ WFA ] Hybrid

WFA online courses includes the live or recorded session, textbook, exam, and up to 40 hours of wilderness medicine podcasts. With the addition of 8 hours of hands-on learning.

Online curriculum for content Instruction followed by:

Hands-on practical skills development :

  • Basic life support and patient assessment

  • Dressing wounds, stopping bleeding, and tying tourniquets

  • Creating splints and assessing for bone breaks

  • Hypothermia wraps

  • Improvised neck braces and liters for spinal injuries

Interactive Medical and Realistic Survival Scenarios:

  • Bears, mountain lions, snakes, scorpions, and animals specific to certain regions

  • Lightning and temperature extremes

  • Flash floods and canyoneering

  • Altitude illness, frostbite, trench foot, and environmental medicine

  • Anaphylaxis and using an Epi Pen

  • Drowning rescue and recovery

  • Communicable diseases including Coronavirus in the backcountry

  • Getting lost and rescue signaling

  • Finding appropriate water and treating it

  • Medicolegal topics and liability

First Aid for Everyone.

This one-day workshop is an extension of the standard 8 hour Wilderness First Aid course. The focus being on basic first aid and life support techniques as well as environmental issues that arise in the wilderness. The class is mostly hands on skills development with realistic scenarios in an incredible outdoor location.

Take action in an emergency.

Students completing the course will receive a 16 hour Wilderness First Aid Card (good for three years) and an OSHA Approved CPR Card [ optional ] (good for two years).  This meets or exceeds the minimum requirement for most CPR/ First Aid training needs.

To earn the Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification, you will take a short exam after attending the course and/or watching the recorded sessions, included in the cost. No prior medical training is needed.
